Katarina kyrka

21 Jul

We take the short walk from Maria Magdalena to Katarina on the cozy cobblestone streets of Södermalm. The Katarina church is located on Katarinaberget, the Katarina hill, where the bodies after the Stockholm Bloodbath was burned. Therefore it is said that this place is cursed. According to the myth the church tower should collapse two times. This legend was fulfilled in 1990 when the church was destroyed for the second time in a fire. But with collected money the church was rebuilt using only original building materials and in 1995 she was again inaugurated. On the HDR-piture below you can see its tower raise above the picturesque houses of Södermalm.
